12 students from Bridgeport, CT and Bronx, NY receive $2,000 college scholarships
In a virtual awards ceremony hosted on June 4, 2021, Daniel Trust Foundation awarded 12 high school seniors from Bridgeport, CT and Bronx, NY with $2,000 college scholarships.
As juniors and seniors, the 12 students participated in the Foundation’s high school mentoring program and will now be scholars in the Foundation’s college scholarship program.
The 2021 Daniel Trust Awards was hosted by Daniel Trust and it featured students receiving their scholarships, congratulatory and advice messages from monthly donors and scholarship sponsors, and impact stories from past scholarship recipients.
“This fall, I am going to New York University where I will pursue my Nursing degree. Thank you so much to all the donors. This scholarship means a lot to me and my family,” said Kujegy Kamara. “Being a first generation college student is tough but I am thankful I had this program.”
In the virtual awards ceremony, Dani Howard, a Monthly Donor to Daniel Trust Foundation, had words of encouragement for the students as they prepare to begin college.
“My Husband Rob and I are proud longtime supporters of the Daniel Trust Foundation, specifically of scholarships for high school students,” Dani said.
“We continue to be supporters because we care about your education. We care about the opportunities you get and we want to make sure you can take advantage of every single one of those opportunities you want,” said Dani.
“So, congratulations to all of you. It’s a huge thing to graduate from high school and we wish you all the best success, love and joy as you go follow your dreams to the next thing,” Dani said.
As a presenter at The 2021 Daniel Trust Awards, Jocelyn Mendez, an Alumna of the College Scholarship Program and soon to be Associate Counsel in the Office of the Governor in Delaware, had wise words to share with the students.
“As you begin college, this is your own race. You do not have to compete with anyone else. Your journey is unique to you. The stories that you get from your journey are going to be important for somebody else someday,” Jocelyn said. “So just remember that this is your journey and if it doesn’t look like the person next to you, that is totally fine.”
Scholars in the College Scholarship Program at Daniel Trust Foundation receive $500 each year for 4 years to help them pay for college textbooks and other supplies.
“I am so honored to have had the opportunity to work with these talented students,” said Daniel Trust, President and CEO of Daniel Trust Foundation. “I look forward to supporting their college education over the next 4 years.”
