This past weekend members of the Daniel Trust Foundation leadership team attended the #STFSummit in New York City. The Summit was hosted at New York University School of Law and featured many girls and women’s rights activists including Sarah Jones, a TONY-winning performer and writer, Jennifer Romolini, author of “Weird in a World That’s Not," and Ajit George, star of Netflix’s Original Documentary Series “Daughters of Destiny” and Director of Operations at Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, a school in Tamil Nadu, India. She’s the First, the Award-winning organization that organized the summit, supports girls who will be the first in their families to graduate high school and trains students everywhere to be global citizens.

Our Founder and CEO Daniel Trust asked our leadership team to share the lessons they took away from the Summit and here is what they had to say: “Combining sentiment from Sarah Jones, Amy O'Leary, and Jennifer Romolini, I would say that my greatest take away is to believe in myself. In order to become the best version of myself, I must accept myself at my worst. Self-actualization will not come without the realization that it will take all parts of me; good or bad, in weakness or strength. If I can do that and still believe in myself, my passion, my intellect, and my hard work, then there is no limit to the success I can achieve.” —Katharine Morris.

“The major lesson I took away from the She’s the First Summit is that whenever I feel discouraged, I need to remember that I am not alone. At the Summit, I asked Jessica Bennett, an Award-winning journalist and contributing writer at the New York Times, a question on ways I can have courage in a male dominated field like Computer Science and Engineering since that is what I am majoring in college and she told me that “although there aren’t many women in technology, there are women who are leading the way in places like Silicon Valley and that I have to be a trailblazer in the field so I can inspire younger women.” Her words were inspiring to me and I will remember what she said whenever I feel discouraged.” —Araceliz Gomes.

“Author and Chief Content Officer at, Jennifer Romolini, spoke about girls in a powerful motive when she wholeheartedly said, "you need courage to get everywhere and you need to make yourself able and not a requirement," this made me feel grateful for who I am and leads me to believe that I am enough wherever I go, and that every girl that I meet should feel the same way when it comes to seeking clarity and support for oneself because we owe it to each other to see the good in ourselves and knowing that we are just as capable as anyone in solving any dilemma possible and in making sure that things work just right from a personal to a professional level.” —Damaris Garcia. We are honored to have had the opportunity to attend the She’s the First Summit and give our Leadership Team the chance to learn and network with other like minded Feminists. The work that this organization is doing to change the lives of girls and women around the word is inspiring to us. To learn more about She’s the First and the Summit, please click here.
