Marge and Wayne Hiller at The 2015 Cocktails with Daniel Trust
Daniel Trust Foundation, an award-winning youth development nonprofit organization with offices in Bridgeport, Connecticut and New York City, is pleased to announce that, Marge and Wayne Hiller of Bridgeport, Connecticut are sponsoring a 1-year scholarship at The 5th Annual Daniel Trust Awards scheduled for June 7, 2018. The Daniel Trust Awards serves as Daniel Trust Foundation’s annual awards dinner, where seniors graduating from the Foundation’s High School Mentoring Program become Scholars in the College Scholarship Program, and local high school teachers get the opportunity to be honored and recognized by the Scholars.
Marge and Wayne Hiller have been investing in and supporting the mission of Daniel Trust Foundation from the very beginning of the Foundation’s founding. In 2013, when Daniel Trust shared with Marge that he was starting a scholarship program, she recommended he awards the scholarship for 4-years instead of awarding a one-time scholarship. She said doing it this way would allow the Foundation to keep in touch with its scholars throughout their college journey. Marge’s advice worked. This Spring semester, 5 of the first 8 Scholars from 2014, including Natalie Ortiz, a young woman Marge recommended for the scholarship, are graduating from College. The relationships Daniel Trust Foundation has built with its scholars is certainly inspired by Marge Hiller and the work she does at Bridgeport Public Education Fund.

In 2015, Marge and Wayne became Members of Daniel Trust Foundation’s Monthly Giving Program and in 2017, Marge joined the Foundation’s Advisory Board. “Honestly, if it wasn’t for Marge Hiller, I would not be where I am today. She has been such an amazing friend, mentor and advisor,” said Daniel Trust, President and CEO of Daniel Trust Foundation. “Even when people doubted me, Marge believed in me and gave me the opportunity to learn from her. I will forever be thankful to her and Wayne for all the support they have shown me and my work over the years.”
Bridgeport Public Education Fund develops programs and mobilizes the community for quality public education in Bridgeport. One of the nonprofit’s signature program is called Mentoring for Academic and Achievement for College/Career Success (MAACS) was developed in 1988 to address the high drop-out and low college attendance rate for Bridgeport Public High School Students. MAACS is unique from other college access programs as it pairs high school students one-on-one with a college mentor. To date, the MAACS program has provided mentoring to over 6,000 students and has a success rate of 95% of its students going on to college. When Daniel Trust attended Bassick High School, he was apart of the MAACS program and when he graduated, Marge and BPEF helped him secure a $10,000 scholarship with a laptop.
