Daniel Trust Foundation, an award-winning youth development nonprofit organization with offices in Bridgeport, CT and New York City, is pleased to announce that Robert J. Smith of Fairfield, Connecticut, is sponsoring a 4-year scholarship at The 5th Annual Daniel Trust Awards on June 7, 2018.
The Daniel Trust Awards serves as Daniel Trust Foundation’s annual awards dinner, where students who are graduating from the Foundation’s High School Mentoring Program become Scholars in the Foundation’s College Scholarship Program, and the Scholars get the opportunity to honor and recognize their favorite teachers with The Kathy Silver Award.
Robert J. Smith has been investing in and supporting the mission of Daniel Trust Foundation since 2015. He was introduced to the Foundation’s mission and work by Kathy Silver and Marge Hiller while he was pursuing his Master’s degree in Education at Sacred Heart University.
Not only does he invest in the mission of Daniel Trust Foundation as a scholarship sponsor and monthly donor, Robert also volunteers his time and skills by serving as a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Board and has provided mentorship and guidance to many of the Foundation’s Scholars, including Shane Hendricks, a rising junior at Southern Connecticut State University and Akbar Niyonkuru, a senior at Bassick High School attending Fairfield University on a full-tuition scholarship this Fall.

“Robert is one of the most talented, kind, and philanthropic man I know. I always tell him that I want to be like him when I grow up,” said Daniel Trust, President and CEO of Daniel Trust Foundation. “I know a lot of people who are generous with their financial resources, but not many are generous with their time and skills like Robert. He is just a wonderful human being.”
In addition to supporting Daniel Trust Foundation, Robert volunteers for many other community organizations in including the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) and Fairfield Museum and History Center.
Robert is a Founding Partner and Chair of the Investment Committee at SVP Connecticut, an organization that works with innovative organizations operating in Connecticut with the mission of narrowing the Opportunity Gap.

Daniel Trust Foundation invests in and supports low-income students with their educational and professional goals. The Foundation also honors teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students and communities in which they teach. The Foundation accomplishes its mission through 3-targeted programs towards the needs of the community. These programs are: (1) a high school mentoring program for juniors and seniors, (2) a college scholarship program for graduates of the mentoring program and (3) a teacher recognition program.
