2014 Daniel Trust Scholars Jocelyn Mendez and Natalie Ortiz
Hi there—it’s Daniel Trust. Happy Friday!
I have some exciting news I’d love to share with you.
It’s with great honor and pleasure to announce that my dearest friends and 2014 Daniel Trust Scholars Jocelyn Mendez and Natalie Ortiz will serve as keynote speakers at The 5th Annual Daniel Trust Awards next week.
Words cannot express how proud I am of Jocelyn and Natalie.
A few years ago, I was invited to speak at the True Colors Conference at UConn. Before I could finish speaking, I received an email from Jocelyn requesting that I come share my Coming Out story with students at her school.
That is how my friendship with Jocelyn began.
When I launched my Scholarship Program in 2014, I knew Jocelyn had to be one of my scholarship recipients. I was so inspired by her advocacy work. This past May, Jocelyn graduated from American University with a Political Science degree and is going to law school this Fall at Delaware Law School.
If it wasn’t for Marge Hiller, I would not have met Natalie.
The first year I started doing this work full-time, it was not easy to find students. At the time, Marge was working on a school project with Natalie at Central High School and recommended she applies for my Scholarship.
It brings me so much joy to see how much Natalie has grown.
This upcoming Monday, Natalie will become the 2nd employee at Daniel Trust Foundation. In her role as Program Manager, Natalie will help me lead and manage our programs, which will give me more time to go out there in the world to raise awareness and lots of money for our Scholars and Teachers.
Just like my friend Jocelyn, Natalie just graduated from college this past May. She obtained a degree in English Literature from the University of Bridgeport and will start graduate school in the Spring of 2019 at Sacred Heart University.
Natalie’s dream is to one day become a professor.
At the awards dinner next week, Jocelyn and Natalie will speak about their college experiences and how receiving the Daniel Trust Foundation Scholarship 4-years ago impacted their lives. I’m so excited.
Have a great weekend!
