Liz Fox sponsored a trip to Washington, DC for students in our mentoring and scholarship programs

If you follow Daniel Trust Foundation on Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, or Twitter, then you know some of the students in our High School Mentoring and College Scholarship Programs had the opportunity to visit Washington, DC on Thursday, June 27, 2019 through Saturday, June 29, 2019.

The trip was sponsored by Liz Fox, one of Daniel Trust Foundation’s major donors. When Liz reached out to me with the trip idea last year, I had no idea how we were going to pull it off, but when we met to discuss the full details, she assured me that everything would be fine and she would take care of everything. And—that is exactly what she did—Liz took care of everything.

Not only did Liz pay for the transportation, accommodation, and meal costs for all 23 students and chaperones who went on the trip, she also planned the whole trip itinerary. When the students arrived on June 27, they had the opportunity to receive a guided tour of the US Capital and had the chance to sit in the House of Representatives Chamber. After the tour of the US Capital, students headed to Hirshhorn Museum and National Air and Space Museum.

On the second day of the trip, students visited the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, National Museum of American History and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. In the evening, students visited the Washington Monument and the Vietnam War and Lincoln Memorials.

Liz put a lot of time and resources into organizing this trip. To show their gratitude, the students wanted her to know they truly appreciated what she had done for them. On the last day, before heading to the White House and Newseum, the students presented Liz with flowers and thank you cards that everyone on the trip signed. Watch the video below to see the presentation.

“On behalf of Daniel Trust Foundation and everyone here, we want to say thank you for this wonderful opportunity. For some of us, it was our first time in Washington, DC,” said Doubenz Fabius, a Scholar in our College Scholarship Program. “We learned a lot, especially a great part of history. Your generosity inspires us to be better people and to help others. Thank you!”

“You gave us an experience of a lifetime—something no one else has done. We need more people in the world like you,” said Lukman Choudhury, a student in our High School Mentoring Program. “You inspire us to be better people. When I get older, I want to do for others what you’ve done for us.”

“Thank you for the experience. I know for some of us it was our first, but for me it was the 3rd time, but with you, I learned a lot more. You taught me more history, more than the tour guides,” said Ishraquddin Wasif, a student in our High School Mentoring Program. "That was very nice of you to teach us about the Vietnam War. Thank you for this whole trip, I appreciate it very much.”

As you can see from the gratitude the students expressed, this trip had a major impact on them. It’s an experience they will never forget. It's true when they say: "One person can truly change the world." Liz Fox is a perfect example.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Liz for not only giving this wonderful experience to our kids, but for being an amazing partner. I hope what she has done inspires other philanthropists around the country to give similar life changing experiences to young people in their community.
