Daniel Trust Foundation has awarded 600,000 Rwandan Francs to 12 students affected by Coronavirus in
Daniel Trust Foundation, an award-winning organization that provides mentorship and scholarships to low-income students in the United States and Rwanda, is pleased to announce that it has awarded 600,000 Rwandan Francs to 12 university students who have been affected by Coronavirus in Rwanda. Each student received 50,000 Rwandan Francs.
“Coronavirus has affected the lives of billions of people around the world. Some of us are very lucky to be healthy and safe,” said Daniel Trust, President and CEO of Daniel Trust Foundation. “As someone who is truly blessed, I want to do my part to help Rwandan students who have been affected by the virus.”
University students in Rwanda were invited to share their stories and how Coronavirus has affected their studies and family in the comments of a video Daniel Trust posted on his Instagram account. The video was posted on April 1st and it has received almost 40,000 views with over 2,000 comments. The 12 student winners received their prize money on April 15st.
How were the winners selected? The stories that received the most likes were chosen as winners. Originally, Daniel Trust had made a commitment to select the top 10 stories with the most likes, but after having a conversation with his team, they decided to select the top 12 stories.
The 12 student winners are Vivier Gakumba, Charity Mutoni, Florence Mukeshimana, Prince Ishimwe, Alida Ineza, Levia Kanyanja, Shemsa Habarugira, Donatha Rukikana, Didier Niyonkuru, Belise Umwari, Chretien Kananga, and Sibylle Kaliza. The students attend Christian University of Rwanda, University of Lay Adventist of Kigali and University of Rwanda.
Since launching its program in Rwanda last year, Daniel Trust Foundation has invested 6.3 million Rwandan Francs in 112 young Rwandan women and men. 4.7 million Rwandan Francs was donated to support 90 high school girls, 1 million Rwandan Francs was donated to support 10 young entrepreneurs and 600k Rwandan Francs was donated to support 12 university students who have been affected by Coronavirus.
“It has been an honor to invest in the lives of hundreds of Rwandan youth,” said Daniel Trust. “As the Lord continues to bless me and Daniel Trust Foundation, I look forward to supporting more youth in Rwanda.”
