Daniel Trust Foundation has established a COVID-19 Emergency Fund to support 70 college students

Despite all the challenges caused by COVID-19, last month eight alumni of Daniel Trust Foundation's High School Mentoring and/or College Scholarship Programs, graduated from college.

The 8 young women and men obtained their undergraduate degrees from Boston College, Fairfield University, Howard University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut, Western Connecticut State University and Yale University.

Among the eight graduates is David Masala (pictured above), whom we’ve had the pleasure of working with since he was a sophomore at Bassick High School. David received his undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Communications from Western Connecticut State University.

David did not have an easy life growing up and a lot of people doubted him and underestimated his potential. We are so glad we believed in David from the day we met him and we are very happy to see him graduate college and prove everyone that doubted him was wrong.

David is currently applying to graduate school and we are honored to have written him a letter of recommendation. David plans to pursue a professional career in counseling after graduate school.

“I wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve been there for me since day one,” said David Masala. “You’ve uplifted me through obstacles, always supplied when needed and never said no to anything. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

We have a proven track record of helping young people like David.

However, COVID-19 has made it extremely difficult for us to continue doing our impactful work and that is why we’ve established a COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help support and fund the college education of 70 young people who are currently Scholars in our College Scholarship Program in the United States. We hope to raise $35,000 in the next two months, so that each college student can receive their $500 scholarship before returning to school this Fall.

We sincerely thank our generous monthly donors and all the donors who have already donated to Daniel Trust Foundation this year. Please know that everyone here at the Foundation is very grateful and truly appreciates the investment you’ve made in our young people. You're the best!

As a black man, I’ve experienced my own share of racism. Life has not been easy for me, but through all the struggles I’ve experienced, I continue to push through and stay positive about the future. Daniel Trust Foundation serves students from all backgrounds and many of them are black. I want the Daniel Trust Foundation community to know that I stand against police brutality, racism, social injustice, and I support Black Lives Matter.
